She sat there, crying, on the first step of a famous stairway, usually so crowded but now, so empty... Maybe it was because of the late hour, probably not a lot of people want to tour the city at three 'o clock of a cold November night, particularly when it's raining and the houses are so warm... Or maybe, everyone knew just how she felt, and wanted to leave her alone... Anyhow, she was there, careless of the reasons of the world, careless anyway if anyone was there or not... The rain poured over her, there wasn't a single spot on her that wasn't dripping wet from the infamous waterfall, yet she didn't feel miserable because of it, she almost felt like it was raining because she was sad...
The girl was holding her head in her hands, her long brown hair almost flowing on her shoulders and on her back, reflecting the color of the night... She sat there, crouched in a fetal position, and she cried... Oh, the way she cried... Her voice, so trembling in the city, echoed through time and space, and stars could have sweared, that one of their kin, was suffering the pains of hell... so distant from them, but hearing such pain, they were sure it was the least that could have happened...
She couldn't feel the freezing rain on her skin, still, those tears burned their way out from her eyes, streamed down her cheeks and then either they continued to follow the gentle curves of her body, either they were reunited with their fellow raindrops, dripping down her chin...
Every once in a while, in between her despairful sighs, she raised her head towards the fountain in front of her, in her heart she was still looking for him, hoping to see him standing there, as if he had come to save her... In her right mind she knew he would not be there, he had never been there for her when they where together, let alone now... All her hopes faded, as she realized no one was there... She cried, and if anyone would have seen her, he would have seen her beautiful face, with her black eyeliner slipping down from her eyes, carefully following the path marked by her tears... She looked like a goth, but she wasn't one... She was wearing a blue shirt that fit perfectly, showing off her body and her curves, and now that it was mopped up with rain it was skin-fitting. Her legs were barely covered by a skirt that climbed up to her knees, since she was sitting she tried to pull it up the more she could, that skirt... It was a gift to her, from him. Come to think of it, it was one of the few he had ever given her...
Often she wanted to forget him, erase him completely out of her mind, as if he had never existed, but she knew she could never do it... He was too strong, and she was too weak to resist him... His presence lingered in her head and would not be chased away... Or maybe...
The rain ended, as if one with her state of mind. This time it would be different. If he called her, she would have been stronger. She was realizing she wasn't worth nothing like she always thought... And just as this truth formed in her mind, the first rays of sun started to show up, and with those, the night was fading. She was nor happy nor sad, but she was sure.
She got up, standing on her own two feet, knowing that now everything was different. The sun kept fighting the night away. She left. The night struggled for one last time. But people seldom change.
The Darkness was Lit.
